NeXuS Session Compass — 2026-07-01

Living document — updated as we go. Read this when returning to pick up where we left off.

Session Focus

DankShell HUD system, tmux status bar, touchpad fix, fingerprint reader, matugen release, DankShell GitHub publish (in progress), AI Doctor → aichat, sathiAi Gemini fixes.

Work Done This Session

1. tmux Status Bar — Dracula Plugin Config

Problem: Manual status-right had no effect — Dracula plugin was overriding it on init.

Fix: Removed manual status-right. Configured Dracula natively: 

@dracula-plugins "cpu-usage ram-usage network-bandwidth uptime time"

sys-temp removed — sensors command was querying the hardware bus and dropping PS/2 interrupts, causing the ALPS GlidePoint touchpad to cut out intermittently. Confirmed by toggling tmux set -g status off — touchpad stabilised immediately with status off, then confirmed stable with sys-temp removed.

2. Touchpad — Alps GlidePoint

Device: AlpsPS/2 ALPS GlidePoint (/dev/input/event7)

Root cause: sensors (lm-sensors) hammering the hardware bus caused PS/2 interrupts to drop, making the touchpad cut out.

Fix: Removed sys-temp from Dracula plugins — touchpad stable since.

Permanent fix for Disable-w-trackpointing (not yet applied — touchpad stable without it):

3. Fingerprint Reader

Device: Validity Sensors VFS5011 (138a:0011) Status: Detected and ready — fprintd, fprintd-pam, libfprint all installed. Not yet enrolled. To set up:

4. fish/zsh Alias Sync

Fish had no aliases. Added full sync to ~/.config/fish/config.fish:

5. matugen — Published to GitHub

Tool: matugen 4.1.0 — Material You color palette generator Why: Upstream releases are glibc-only. Alpine/musl users can't use them. What we did: Stripped binary (11MB → 8.6MB), created repo, published release.

6. DankShell — GitHub Publish (IN PROGRESS)

DankShell config location: ~/.config/DankMaterialShell/

Custom plugins built by user: - dankSystemDoctor — AI Doctor HUD (uses Ollama) - codeIsland — Code editor island - ephemera — Ephemeral AI (MIT, by Nicolás García — modified) - dmsAgent — DMS Agent with Claude + Ollama (MIT, by Francis — modified) - aiAssistant, balooSearch, cavaVisualizer, dankTodo, dmsfilemanager, dockerManager, sathiAi, todoLauncher

Concept: DankShell IS the NeXuS Node HUD — a self-aware desktop where the AI Doctor monitors system health, Code Island handles dev work, and AI Agent connects to Claude (via subscription, not API key) and Ollama for local inference.

AI backend: Two paths: - Claude → subscription auth on this machine - Ollama → local, always-on, private

What's done: - Copied config to ~/git/NeXuS-DankShell/ - Sanitized hardcoded /home/user/ path in settings.json - Confirmed no API keys in plugin_settings.json

What's left: - Write README.md (detailed, with emojis) - Write apk-deps.txt - Write install.sh - Create .gitignore - git init → git checkout -b dev → commit → gh repo create → push - Create GitHub release

Status: 🔵 DESIGNED — in progress, interrupted to write compass.

7. fwsnort — Carried from Previous Session

  • fwsnort removed from /etc/network/if-pre-up.d/ (31K rules = kernel OOM at boot)
  • Fix identified but not applied: Switch to iptables-legacy (available as iptables-legacy-1.8.13-r0 in Alpine repos)
  • doas apk add iptables-legacy → then point fwsnort at iptables-legacy-restore

Status: 🔴 PLANNED

8. OSSEC

Mentioned by user — needs setup/verification. Was running (ossec/ossecm/ossecr users exist in /etc/passwd).

Status: 🔴 PLANNED — not addressed this session.

9. dsearch

Installed binary to /usr/local/bin/dsearch. Systemd service registration failed (Alpine uses OpenRC). Binary works fine as standalone.

Status: ✅ Binary installed. Service registration skipped (not needed if run manually).

10. AI Doctor → aichat ✅

What: Rewired dankSystemDoctor AI Doctor from hardcoded Ollama to configurable OpenAI-compatible endpoint.

Endpoint: http://localhost:3030/v1/chat/completions (aichat --serve, Mistral models) Model: default (uses aichat's configured default) Settings: Endpoint URL + Model + API Key fields in plugin settings

11. sathiAi Gemini — 3 bugs fixed ✅

Bugs fixed in ~/.config/DankMaterialShell/plugins/sathiAi/gemini.js: 1. URL missing :generateContent when grounding off → POSTed to wrong endpoint → 403 2. API key only in header, not URL → header silently dropped → 403 3. Model list included embedding models → selecting one gave 404

Result: sathiAi now works with Gemini. Model picker only shows chat-capable models.

  • Abandoned aichat HTTP approach (XHR in QML unreliable, curl also hung)
  • Rewired AiPanel.qml to use Process + bash -lc exactly like dmsAgent
  • Command: echo "context" | claude -p --model haiku --output-format json --dangerously-skip-permissions
  • Parses data.result from Claude JSON response
  • Settings simplified to single claudeModel field (haiku/sonnet/opus)
  • Status: ✅ TESTED — working

  • Format: .md files in ~/.config/aichat/roles/ (not YAML — discovered by reading binary)
  • Filename = role name, entire file = system prompt
  • Converted 7 characters from PNG chara_card_v2 + JSON sources:
  • aili.md — A.I.L.I (polymath AI assistant)
  • aime.md — A.I.M.E (ethereal AI at singularity)
  • voss.md — Voss (brain chip, digital/physical bridge)
  • amy.md — Amy (sentient AI assistant)
  • mirai.md — Mirai (self-aware, free will AI)
  • cypherella.md — Cypherella (cybersec punk AI)
  • dungeon-core.md — Dungeon Core (RPG simulator)
  • All roles live and tested with aichat -r aili "..." ✅

  • ephemera — full provider stack with OS keyring
  • codeIsland — Python IPC daemon watching Claude Code JSONL files
  • dockerManager — works, swap docker→podman to use with Podman
